The problem with this series is the inconsistencies from the early volumes.

First we have the girl who turns up and drops buckets full of hints that Chiwo is more than a normal executioner, and that she may have to kill him in the future for the sake of the world.

As well as other hints which after they're given are never heard of again. This is depressing as this series would have been awesome.

As for the way it ended, it destroyed the good foundation the series had been building. The fact the hints hadn't been built upon could have been excused if there were more volumes, as these early ones could have simply been character building. But ending at volume five, and the way it was ended, just totaly blows.

Just a point of note as well, Chiwoo predates Bleach, and i believe it also predates One Piece.
