Review: Winter Demon (Vol. 03)

The travels of the demon Fuyu and the monk Hakuin continue in volume three of Winter Demon. Souls of demons they defeated are leaking from the weapon they’re trapped in, so the pair head to the home of the weapon’s creator to find a way to fix the problem. But things aren’t as simple as that with a dangerous journey up a mountain to be had and the incubus Figaru whose unfulfilled lust is becoming life threatening.

Review: Man’s Best Friend

From the artist of Wild Rock comes Man’s Best Friend! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?”

Man’s Best Friend is as the title would suggest, a story about a dog. Of course, this is a yaoi so thank goodness it’s not just any dog! The title tale in this book follows Ukyo, who one day comes across a loveable stray dog he names Kuro. Taking in the little pile of scruff, he’s in for a shock when the dog suddenly takes human form, all out of love for the kind man who took him in.

Review: Eerie Queerie! (Complete Series)

Originally titled, Ghost! during it’s original Japanese publication, Tokyopop held nothing back its renaming of this series for its English release: Eerie Queerie. The lead character is Mitsuo, a young boy with the ability to see and interact with ghosts. Problem being, however, is that the ghosts can take over his body, and he has little say in the matter! Enter a variety of other characters that all come together to make this a wacky, weird and humorous four volumes of ghosts, spiritualists and boys’ love.

Review: Beyond My Touch

Beyond My Touch is a collection of Tomo Maeda boys’ love stories, three in total. The title story, and also the longest, stars Mizuno, a quiet student who keeps to himself until one day when the ghost of his classmate follows him home. Mamoru claims that Mizuno is his regret, keeping him here on Earth as a ghost. Despite how hard Mamoru tries to help, and openly shares his feelings, he seems to be nothing but an annoyance to Mizuno. What’s a little ghost to do?

Ray, the charismatic and charming thief-by-night; Florian, the beautiful astriocratic son sold by his family and Lila, Ray’s assistant, take a trip out to the country to visit a distant relative’s estate. Soon everyone there finds themselves trapped by a freak blizzard and at the mercy of someone out to get them!

Review: The Sky Over My Spectacles

Azuma has a fetish for people wearing glasses. It’s considered common knowledge in his class how his loves and lays were all with cute girls with spectacles. However, Azuma suddenly finds himself attracted to his fellow male classmate, Sorachi, causing him to wonder if questioning his sexuality is worth his fetish (especially when the object of his attraction seems to hate him). It doesn’t take much imagination to realize where things are going and soon the two are hopelessly in love with each other, cueing all the usual dramatics. This is the title story of the small collection and takes up just over half of the book.

The Moon and the Sandals follows the relationship trials and successes of a group of men as they learn about themselves and others in these sweet, coming-of-love stories. It puts a down-to-earth spin on the teacher-student love story and gives readers an honest feeling look at these characters’ love lives.

Review: Ichigenme (Vol. 02)

Taking place seven years after the end of the first book, volume two continues to follow the ever-evolving relationship of Tohdou and Tamiya. Both continue their work diligently which often means they don’t get to see eachother as much as they’d like… or as much as Tohdou would like anyway. Tamiya continues to act a bit cold and reserved. Combined with his growing independence through things such as cooking and cleaning, and apparent little interest in sex, Tohdou begins to fear that he’ll have nothing left to offer his lover.
