PR: Global Yaoi Publisher SuBLime Details New Manga Acquisitions And Updates

GLOBAL YAOI PUBLISHER SuBLime REVEALS EXCITING NEW MANGA ACQUISITIONS DURING YAOICON 2014

LOVE STAGE!!, THE WORLD’S GREATEST FIRST LOVE, GINGER HONEY, THE NIGHT BEYOND THE TRICORNER WINDOW, And More!

San Francisco, CA, September 15, 2014 – SuBLime, the global yaoi manga publishing initiative between VIZ Media and Japan’s Animate, Ltd. (Animate), provided detailed updates for a variety of brand-new and continuing yaoi manga titles during its YaoiCon 2014 panel this past weekend in San Francisco. News of the acquisitions of several exclusive new digital and print titles thrilled fans in attendance.

To the delight of many fans, SuBLime announced plans to release Eiki Eiki and Taishi Zaou’s LOVE STAGE!! (Rated ‘M’ for Mature) in print starting May 2015 with additional volumes to follow every other month. In this romantic comedy, the protagonist’s family is packed with famous celebrities but Izumi Sena is actually a huge otaku with aspirations of becoming a manga creator.

SuBLime also detailed plans to publish GINGER HONEY (Rated ‘M’ for Mature), creator Isaku Natsume’s humorous follow-up to DEVIL’S HONEY (also published by SuBLime), which is set for digital-only release February 2015.

SuBLime also acquired Tomoko Yamashita’s THE NIGHT BEYOND THE TRICORNER WINDOW Vol. 1 (Rated ‘T+’ for Older Teens) and plans to debut the series digitally beginning March 2015.

In addition to these new releases, SuBLime updated fans about the forthcoming simultaneous, worldwide digital release on October 28th of Episode 2 of author Rieko Yoshihara and artist Ryo Tateishi’s INTO ILLUSION, the same day it debuts in Japan! Don’t miss the half-manga/half-novel release of this unique and exciting series from the author of Ai no Kusabi – The Space Between.

SuBLime Goes Manga-Meta with License of Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi

The World's Greatest First Love

SuBLime Manga sent a corner of the internet screeching in collective joy this past June, announcing they’d licensed fan-favourite title, Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi:

The World’s Greatest First Love – Shungiku Nakamura

The complete English title is The World’s Greatest First Love: The Case of Ritsu Onodera and included all eight volumes of the boys’ love series.

This is a title so well known in the boys’ love community that I did a double-take when I read the news. Hadn’t this been licensed already? Hadn’t I seen this already? Nope, but I had watched the anime adaptation on Crunchyroll and the originating series published by BLU Manga, Junjo Romantica (from which this series spins-off from). So, while this is the first time The World’s Greatest First Love has been licensed in English, it certainly had some big stepping stones leading it here! Hopefully that matched with its existing already-read-it fanbase will lead to some good sales.

Tired of accusations that family connections got him his current position, Ritsu Onodera quits his job as an editor at his father’s company and transfers to Marukawa Publishing. Once there, he is assigned to the shojo manga editorial department—something he has no interest in and no experience with! Having sworn he’d never fall in love again, the last thing he wants to do is work on love stories. To make matters worse, it turns out that his overbearing boss, Masamune Takano, is actually his first love from high school!”

The first volume of The World’s Greatest First Love will be released in print February 2015, with future volumes coming out every two months after that.

SuBLime can count me in for an order of this title. I’m confident I’ll enjoy it based on the anime (even though the Junjo manga was not a winner for me), and I always love a manga about making manga, so this series hits a double-chord. Huzzah!

Digital Manga Goes Dance and No Pants with Fanime Licenses

Digital Manga Goes Dance and No Pants with Fanime Licenses

Delivering more shiny eyes and panties, Digital Manga announced two new titles at their Fanime panel back in late May:

Dance Blade of the Spirit Master – Issei Hyōju’s
No Pants, No Problem – Azure Konno

Both titles will be released under Digital Manga Inc’s main imprint, Digital Manga Publishing, including print and digital editions. DMP doesn’t yet have release dates for either title.

Dance Blade of the Spirit Master follows the exploits of a young man who inadvertently becomes his world’s first male spiritualist. He enters into a spirit contract while peeping on the female student who was originally intended to be the spirit’s partner.

No Pants, No Problem is a comedy series where a school dress code is altered to put a ban on underwear. … large amounts of awkward ensue?

Licenses like these are difficult to write up without sighing, after a recent CNN article sent angry ripples through the anime and manga community. Is all anime and manga pornographic? Of course not! Still, it certainly isn’t hard to see why some could be fooled into thinking so with a few surface glances.

To each their own of course. And when it comes to all forms of legal perversity, I’m not one to judge – after all, I’m excited for Digital Manga’s confirmation that Ayano Yamane’s Finder (Vol. 07) is on the horizon.

Other new volume confirmations included volumes four and five of Kazuma Kodaka’s Border and volume two of Kou Yoneda’s Twittering Birds Never Fly.

Review: Scarlet

Scarlet

Manga-ka: Hiro Madarame
Publisher: BLU Manga
Rating: Mature (18+)
Release Date: August 2010

Synopsis: “College student Akio is dating Ryo who appears to have childlike innocence with gorgeous features but is actually a helpless, philandering boy unable to withstand the slightest loneliness. Every time a girl approaches Ryo, he’s unable to decline! What’s Akio to do with his philandering boyfriend?”

Scarlet is a little confusing when read through for the first time, but after a second read-through it’s easy to piece it together. While the characters are very much the cliché yaoi characters – Akio being small and cute and Ryo being handsome, tall and manly – it’s the story that really makes it stand out.

Update to Boys-Luv.com

Boys-Luv.com

Hello, site visitors! Some of you have noticed that since Kuriousity’s recent face lift, Boys-Luv.com – Kuriousity’s boys’ love exclusive partner-site – was no longer operating as normal. Part of the reason a little revamp of Kuriousity was done was to accommodate some recent software changes. Unfortunately those changes also broke Boys-Luv.com.

Because all the same content remains available here at Kuriousity, I’ve decided to shutdown Boys-Luv.com, at least for the time being (who knows what the future may bring!). All older posts from Boys-Lov can still be accessed via our archives, and any old links will automatically redirect to their Kuriousity equivalent.

For those who would like to continue reading only the boys’ love related posts, they are available via the Boys’ Love/Yaoi tag and can be subscribed to via their own RSS feed.

My apologies for any inconvenience or sad faces this may cause, and we all hope you stick around for the same fun manga and BL content here at Kuriousity!

Pretty in Pleats – Project H Licenses New Crossdresser Hentai

Pretty in Pleats - Project H Licenses New Crossdresser Hentai

It was Tateno on Twitter last week, but  hentai went to another social media outlet as Digital Manga announced their newest license via Facebook:

Will You Be My Cute Crossdresser? – Mitohi Matsumoto

Digital Manga will be releasing this new title through their Project-H imprint. It will be available in both print and digital editions, with the latter for $17.95/US, $19.99/CAN in October 2014. Digital Manga previously released Mitohi Matsumoto’s My Cute Crossdresser, and though I’m not 100% sure if it’s a direct sequel or not, Digital Manga does say it’s connected.

When My Cute Crossdresser was first announced, I was eager to read it. Cute crossdressing boys in sexy situations? Yes, please! Unfortunately, it wasn’t very interesting. But… not bad. I liked it enough that I’ll be buying Will You Be My Cute Crossdresser, but I’ll be going into it with more accurate expectations. It’s got a little perviness, and a sprinkle of boys’ love written from a male-gaze perspective , and not the more raunchy material I was assuming from its Project-H imprint. It’s an odd little concoction of genres but entertaining all the same.

Digital Manga Tweets Tateno with Two New Boys’ Love Titles

Digital Manga Tweets Tateno with Two New Boys' Love Titles

It’s not the title I recently wrote my hopes for, but Digital Manga shows we’re still on the path of potential when they announced licenses for two new manga series:

A Murmur of the Heart – Makoto Tateno
A Waltz In The Clinic – Makoto Tateno

Both titles are boys’ love one-shots, and are scheduled for release as print and digital editions. When? Still a mystery. Digital Manga announced both licenses via their Twitter account earlier in the month.

Not only do these titles have the creator in common – who has had many of her works released in English over the years – but they both also cater to readers looking for some physical physicians. Of course it helps they share the same characters and locale. A Waltz in the Clinic follows a hospital resident who falls for a patient he meets while avoiding the advances of a physician in his department. In A Murmur of the Heart, that same physician is inspired to explore his feelings for a surgeon when he sees the resident he was chasing fall into a relationship of his own.

Amazon.jp has some preview pages up for A Murmur of the Heart, while we’ve reviewed a number of Makoto Tateno’s titles here on Kuriousity. Her titles are always lukewarm for me – I never think they’re all that great, but I’ve rarely found them bad. They sure are books I read! I’d be lying if I said the hospital theme didn’t pique my interest a little more than usual though.

PR: Yaoi Manga Publisher SuBLime Debuts New Release The Man of Tango

GLOBAL YAOI MANGA PUBLISHER SuBLime RELEASES TETUZOH OKADAYA’S DANCE-FLAVORED LOVE STORY, THE MAN OF TANGO

“Life Is Like Tango; There Are Infinite Steps.” A Hot Dancer Is Drawn To A Handsome But Reluctant Salaryman In This Fiery Manga Set To The Moves Of The Sultry Argentine Dance

SuBLime, the global yaoi manga (graphic novel) publishing initiative between VIZ Media and Japan’s Animate, Ltd. (Animate), turns on the passion and heats up the dance floor Latin-style with the release of Tetuzoh Okadaya’s, THE MAN OF TANGO. This new single-volume edition is now available, is rated ‘M’ for Mature Readers, and carries a print MSRP of $12.99 U.S. / $14.99 CAN. The digital version is available simultaneously at an MSRP of USD $5.99 and offers fans digital access to two versions of each manga volume on www.SuBLimeManga.com – a DRM-free downloadable PDF that is viewable on any enabled eReader device and computer, and via the online manga viewer found on the web site.

Although hailed as “The Man of Tango,” Angie has never truly felt the deep, fiery passion of the dance until he met Hiro, a half-Latin, half-Japanese office worker who’s in no way interested in men. Slowly, Hiro finds himself drawn to the Latin dancer and the seductive beat of the tango, opening his body and soul to their smoldering heat. This revised special edition of Tetuzoh Okadaya’s debut volume also includes previously unpublished content.
