22 Years of Fun (and Stereotype)

Many thanks to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday! It’s much appreciated and did turn out to be a pleasantly happy one.

As a random bout of this 22-years-alive appreciation day, I’ve written down some random facts about me that come attached with some commentary! So if you’re a little curious about me, past my thoughts on 179 manga books (hard to believe I’ve written that many since March 2007…), then check it out after the jump! Maybe you’ll discover we have some more stuff in common; the misunderstood, multi-hobby geeks that we are!

Where’s my Kingdom Hearts?

Possibly connected to the recent Tokyopop hullabalo, I got an e-mail from Amazon telling me that my pre-order for Kingdom Hearts II volume three had been cancelled. Boo! So I looked into it. While I found the listing for that book was still there on both Amazon.com and .ca (where I make my orders of course!), I discovered that a lot of listings for Tokyopop’s books have vanished. While TP never had as many advance listings as Viz or DelRey, they still had a couple volumes ahead of many of the series I collected. Well, no longer! Relevant to recent events? Perhaps.

Also Kingdom Hearts related: Despite it being one of Tokyopop’s best selling books on a fairly consistant basis, it seems they won’t be publishing the side manga stories. Also drawn by Shiro Amano, as the three KH series Tokyopop’s released so far, they’re collections of short stories relevant to the video game and it’s cast. Two of the short story series, The First Door and Darkness Within are being published instead by Disney Press. What TokyoPop does seem to be publishing, however, is a Kingdom Hearts artbook in October 2008.

Review: Kingdom Hearts II (Vol. 02)

Manga-ka: Shiro Amano
Publisher: Tokyopop
Rating: Teen (13+)
Released: May 2008

Synopsis:
“Stunned by the cryptic words spoken by Namine, Roxas desperately tries to uncover the true connection to his dream-self, Sora. For her part, Namine wants to help Roxas in his quest, but she’ll have to act quickly before DiZ succeeds in his plan to “dispose” of her. And then there is the question of Axel – and just who side he is really on…”

The story continues to follow Roxas, the progressively more confused young boy who comes to realize that his entire life as he remembers it is a lie. With everything unravelling around him, the threat of Roxas being lost forever in light of Sora’s return, leaves him rightfully unsettled. The lead cast of the game returns here in volume two and the story is ready to take off.
