BLU Offers Replacements for Flawed Croquis Copies

BLU, the boys’ love imprint of Tokyopop, has posted information for those who may have received defective copies of the recently released one-shot, Croquis.

Some customers have found random portions of the book in German, an accidental overlap from an earlier edition Tokyopop published in Germany.

“This was due to a printing error — unfortunately, due to some technical and human errors, some German text from a previously published edition was not properly deleted, and therefore some editions were printed with German text in a few word balloons.”

Those who have a book with this issue can cut out and mail the bar code to Tokyopop and they’ll replace it with a new ‘clean copy’. It isn’t clear if this offer is open only to the United States or if international customers can do the same.

    Huh. Does that mean the English edition is actually translated out of the German?

      I’m not sure if it was translated from the German edition but since Tokyopop had already released it in Germany, they were probably reusing files that had already been cleaned up and were ready for print – this is where I’d imagine the issue happened, with some German text not being properly replaced with the English adaptation.

    Ugh…It hurt so much to cut-up my defective manga copy :[ I hope they send out those “not cut up and German-free” editions soon.

    Hi, maybe you might be able to help me. I visit the blumanga site often to see if there are any updates and I saw the post for this and when I received my manga a few days later I sent the information to receive the clean copy. My question is, would you happen to know the estimated amount of time to receive the replacements?

    Wow. Tokyopop really does fail at quality.

      Well mistakes do happen. It's really unfortunate but at least Tokyopop was quick to offer up this solution to those who've already bought a copy. I do wonder how long it'll be until those of us who haven't bought it can pick up a copy that's been corrected. Not all retailers are that quick to return product for replacements, defective or not.
