Digital Manga Speaks After Yaoi Con 2008

DMP: Lotsa new goodies to be had!

Today I recieved an e-mail from Michelle Mauk from Digital Manga Publishing regarding the recent Yaoi Con convention and there’s plenty of good news to go around! From book announcements made at Yaoi Con, to the state of their imprints, you can read it all under the cut.

First off, the staff of DMP make note of their two new online services, Yaoi Club and eManga. While Yaoi Club is an all-yaoi, all-the-time one-stop shop for boys’ love, eManga offers pay-per-read manga from their library of titles. I previously wrote my initial take on Yaoi Club on it’s opening day.

Some exciting new announcements regarding eManga’s near future include “unique creator based content (dojinshi straight from Japanese creators, available only on eManga), original user and fan content and more mainstream titles, and hard to find/out of print titles.”

Regarding the matter of 801Media, and recent lay-offs, Michelle assures me that 801Media is remaining as is and doing fine.

“801 Media is not closing, or being absorbed into June.  It will remain as it has, it’s own entity, with it’s own special packaging and pricing.  It will not die, and we will not let it die.  All titles are on as scheduled, and in fact, our main priority is making sure they get out on time.”

Two staff members were laid off from production due to the economic downturn of the manga industry. This downtown is also responsible for a neccessary cut of their book production, from 12 books a month to 7. Rachel, a name well known to many of us who’ve been in contact and worked with DMP in the past, has left the company. This was a planned event they’ve known about for a while and Rachel was not let go.

DMP’s other imprint, Doki Doki, is also kicking off in April 2009 with a slew of titles.

Speaking of new titles, here’s what I’m sure most of you are waiting for. Release announcements, including several new licenses!

Michelle also let me know that several of the series recieved the most noticable loud applause, including Flower of Life (Vol. 04), Train Train and Ludwig. I certainly would’ve joined in with any and all applause! This is a lot of fantastic news, from continuation of some previously released series to the appearance of several great news by a variety of talented manga-ka, we’ve got lots of great titles to look forward to from DMP in 2009! I’m even intrigued by the new coming soon additions to eManga, especially the original doujinshi that will be exclusively distributed through it.

Of course many thanks go to Michelle for the kind and detailed response to my inquiry. Those of us waiting for information from the convention now need wait no longer and have recieved lots of exciting news :)

You're very welcome, aoi_aka! I was thrilled to get it and even happier to share it fellow fans waiting for these updates :) I realize that some of the titles listed under new announcements have been revealed previously, but I've listed them as Michelle sent them to me. We'll just say this makes them officially-official ;3

    Oh thank god.

I knew about Hero Heel and Loveholic but to get confirmation on Flower of Life 4 and Il Gato Sul makes me a very happy girl (I would be even happier if they weren't mid-2009) but oh well. At least they are FINALLY scheduled.

    *sigh of relief*
